Julia co-directed the short documentary Sadika’s Garden, which tells the story about a Syrian family and their struggle to overcome a series of obstacles to start a new life in Canada. The film garnered three gold medals at the 2020 Yorkton Film Festival and Leo Awards nominations for best short documentary and best direction.

Sadika’s Garden was profiled in a North Shore News article titled, “Deep Cove filmmaker chronicles war, loss, and empathy in new documentary.”
